Stozharov spent many summers touring villages in the far Russian north painting their fishing boats and simple wooden houses. This work and the previous canvas were both painted during the artist's mature period of the 1960s.
The artist delighted in the simplicity of the life he found there and he befriended the people and collected their artefacts. These paintings are fine examples of works by one of Russia's leading landscape painters.
