Gulf News: Russian art to go on display in Abu Dhabi

For the first time ever a major art exhibition featuring 20th century Russian art will be held in the UAE.

The exhibition which takes place at the Emirates Palace Hotel from October 7 to December 10, is hosted by Art Russe, and is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

Over 100 major Russian artworks, including sculptures from the Soviet era, will go on display, allowing visitors to learn about some of the most iconic and popular Russian artists.

“It is a great honour for Art Russe to present this new exhibition in the capital of the UAE. Abu Dhabi is a recognised cultural centre … along with developing science and industry, the USSR placed great emphasis on fostering the arts, leaving behind a rich cultural heritage,” said Andrey Filatov, founder of Art Russe.

“During this era, a number of extremely talented painters and sculptors emerged and a selection of their works will form the heart of our exhibition. We hope that this project will encourage cross-cultural exchange and cooperation between our peoples and will show Russia’s artistic resources to the Middle East,” he added.
